“It is not a matter of becoming, but of Being..”
“When asked by an aspirant whether his Realization, if attained, would help other, Bhagavan has been known to reply: ‘Yes, and it is the best help you possibly can give them.’ then he added: ‘But in fact there are no others to help.’”
“Our real nature is Liberation, but we imagine that we are bound. We make strenuous efforts to become free, although all the while we are free.”
“Questioner: What is the difference between meditation and Self-enquiry?
Ramana Maharshi: Meditation is possible only if the ego is retained; there is the ego and the object meditated upon. This method is indirect. However, if we seek the ego-source, the ego disappears and what remains is the Self. This method is the direct one.”
“The ego is a very powerful elephant which cannot be brought under control by any creature less powerful than a lion, which, in this instance, is none other than the Guru, whose very looks make the elephant-like ego tremble and die. You will know in due course that your glory lies where you cease to exist.”
“Waking is long and a dream short; other than this there is no difference. Just as waking happenings seem real while awake, so do those in a dream while dreaming. In dream, the mind takes on another body. In both waking and dream states, thoughts, names and forms occur simultaneously. ~ Who Am I? (Nan Yar?)”
“To say ‘I am not the body’ but ‘I am the self’ is still not correct. There is no thought of ‘I’ in true Being.”
“Questioner: How are we to treat others?
Ramana Maharshi: There are no others.”
“It is the nature of the mind to wander. You are not the mind.”
